Katía Truijen

Katía Truijen is a media theorist and musician based in the high-speed train between Amsterdam and Rotterdam. Since 2014, she has been developing research projects and public programs within Het Nieuwe Instituut’s Research department. Her current research focuses on the politics of contemporary video culture. She was assistant curator for WORK, BODY, LEISURE, the Dutch Pavilion at the 16th Venice International Architecture Biennale in 2018, and managing editor for the forthcoming publication Architecture of Appropriation: On Squatting as Spatial Practice (2019).

Katía has published about digital culture, artistic research and design for many leading cultural platforms in the Netherlands, among others Sonic Acts, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen / Design Column, Virtueel Platform, Institute of Network Cultures, IDFA DocLab, WhyNot and FIBER. She graduated from the M.A. in New Media and Digital Cultures at the University of Amsterdam with her thesis Urban Dialogues, and completed the Art & Research Honours Programme at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie.

Previously, she taught at the University of Amsterdam, department of Media Studies, and was a guest lecturer at a.o. the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, de Nederlandse Filmacademie, the 25th International Philosophy Olympiad and the IMAL Urban Media Lab Symposium in Brussels.

As a cultural programmer, she co-curated the festivals So it Goes (2019), Club Voyage (2015), Frisse Moed (2012) and Het Verval (2012), as well as the exhibition Souvenirs at Felix Meritis in Amsterdam (Gevonden Voorwerpen, 2015). From September 2019, Katía hosts livingroom concerts (Huiskamerconcerten Rotterdam) at her //\ Hoekhuis.

Between 2011-2014 Katía released a series of records with bandmembers Denis Wouters, Jelle Himmelreich, Zoli Soos, Viktor Truijen, and many collaborating musicians.
