I’m Katía Truijen, based in the high-speed train between Amsterdam and Rotterdam, researcher at Het Nieuwe Instituut (R&D), reading and writing about digital cultures and composing songs for a new album. Sometimes I curate small exhibitions or organize one day festivals. I’m a part-time pluviophile.
I have worked as a researcher and editor for a.o. Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen (Design Column), Virtueel Platform, Simulacrum, Institute of Network Cultures, IDFA DocLab, FIBER, CJP, de Volkskrant and HUMAN/NPS/Cultura.
I have been teaching new media and online storytelling at the University of Amsterdam and the Nederlandse Filmacademie and lectured at the IMAL Urban Media Lab Symposium in Brussels. At the University of Amsterdam, I wrote Urban Dialogues (MA thesis, 2013) about urban media interventions. For Virtueel Platform I co-edited the publication Transmediaal Werken in Nederland.
As an instigator and project manager, I have organised the one day festivals Club Voyage (2015), Frisse Moed (2012) and Het Verval (2012) and the exhibition Souvenirs at Felix Meritis in Amsterdam (Gevonden Voorwerpen, 2015).
When it’s raining, I write songs, sing and play instruments with my band: www.soundslikekatia.com.
